Minimum Wage Increases 2009 - Matt Smith
Minimum Wage Increases:
The National Minimum Wage will increase, again with effect from 1st October 2009.
The increases will be much smaller than in previous years due to the prevailing economic climate.
The rates will increase as follows:
- For those over the age of 21 years: from £5.73 to £5.80 per hour;
- For 18 - 21 year olds: from £4.77 to £4.83 per hour; and
- For 16-17 year olds: from £3.53 to £3.57 per hour.
The Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform also announced that the top rate will be extended to 21 year olds from October 2010.
