Greater rights for Grandparents - Kerry Pritchard
The government has promised that grandparents will have greater rights in the future following family breakdowns.
Currently grandparents have no rights to contact with their grandchildren following adoption, Divorce or other breakdowns within the family and if they wish to pursue contact with their grandchildren they must first seek permission from the Court.
Children's Secretary, Ed Balls, who recently appeared on GMTV to speak about the proposals has said that he plans to abolish the necessity for grandparents to seek the Court's permission before being able to issue any applications to enable them to see their grandchildren.
"Removing the barriers that grandparents face in courts, when they wish to see their grandchildren through times of Divorce and separation will relieve an enormous burden currently placed on grandparents" said Balls.
