Hope House Coffee Morning at Lees

18/12/2009

Lees Solicitors held a Christmas Coffee Morning in aid of Hope House Children's Hospices on Friday 11 December. The event was sparked by the sad death of Lucy Edwards, a client of Lees and a regular at Hope House. The event was attended and supported by Lees' staff and principals.

To raise money for this worthy charity, generous staff members donated home made cakes to sell on the morning. There were cakes galore including sticky rice crispy-crunchy cakes, chocolate marshmallow nibbles, chocolate sponges, and doughnuts to name just a few. All were served with a selection of teas or coffee and festive mulled wine (minus the alcohol!). Much fun was had by all and £183.05 was raised.

Julia Hurlbut, Solicitor in the Clinical Negligence Department at Lees said, "Lucy, aged 9, was one of our clients who sadly passed away in July this year. Lucy stayed at Hope House occasionally which gave much needed respite for her parents; they also have an Out-Reach Team who provided care in Lucy's home. Lucy spent her last precious days at Hope House which goes to show how much her family valued the love and support of the staff and the facilities. Hope House rely solely on charitable donations which is why we thought it important to show our support and raise money through our event."

Rachel Edwards, Lucy's mother has said about her experience of Hope House, "Hope House has become another branch of our family. From the first moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed with open arms, arms that knew what we were going through, arms that understood when no one else did; arms that cherished our ill daughter and us all too.

Hope House is a place full of sunshine and laughter, they do not waste a single second of the children's lives, they cram as much as they possibly can into their visits; everything from swimming in the wonderful hydro pool, arts and crafts in the fantastic playroom; relaxing and aromatherapy in the sensory light room, to trips out in the mini bus to the cinema; canal trips and even adventure parks!! These things are not only for the poorly children but for their siblings as well. Some much needed fun times with each other as well."

Hope House Children's Hospices is a registered charity. They run two hospices in Oswestry, Shropshire and Ty Gobaith, in Conwy, North Wales. Their service costs £4 million a year and they rely almost entirely upon donations to continue their work. They are currently caring for more than 320 terminally ill children and their families.
