relationships can be complicated

change of name

At Lees Solicitors we provide an efficient service where you can promptly change your first name, surname or the name of a child who is under the age of 16.

You will need to provide our Family Law Solicitors with your old and new details. Providing you have paid the fees in advance, we can prepare a Change of Name Deed for you within 24 hours.

Next, you will attend a meeting with one of our solicitors who will draw up a Statutory Declaration, which is then signed by you to indicate the contents of the deed are correct.

why change your name?

We will make sure you can legally change your name, for whichever reason you choose to do so, such as:

  1. When marrying
  2. Following a civil partnership
  3. After a divorce

Our family solicitors will guide you through the Change of Name Deeds and the entire process of changing your name.

Once your name has been changed, you can use it for all purposes, such as legal proceedings, financial matters and in employment.

changing a child’s name

If you wish to change your child’s name you must have Parental Responsibility for your child, and if there is anyone else with Parental Responsibility, they must also grant permission.

A young person does not have to give their consent, but if they object they can apply for a Court order to prevent the action being taken.
